On the terraced slopes of Castagneto Carducci, 22 wooden units compose a horizontal skyscraper: light structures suspended on the hill, merging over time with the landscape.
Le Pianacce Camping Village lies on a steep terraced terrain between the Bolgheri vineyards and the sea. The masterplan responds to the need to place 22 new mobile units while preserving the site’s morphology. Two spatial conditions were devised: some units overlook a continuous balcony where the terrace is deep, others are arranged along the slope’s edge, separated by wooden decks when the space is narrower. Along the paths below the escarpments, the decks become stepped seating systems, mediating between different levels. A continuous rusted-iron railing made of square sections and ribbed rods fixed at regular intervals frames the terraces, defining the scale of the intervention. The project unfolds as a groundscaping intervention: a horizontal building stretched across the hill, assembled from removable wooden units, suspended decks and fine steel geometries. With no foundations and open joints, the system minimises soil consumption while ensuring coherence and reversibility. Over time, the mobile modules naturally blend into their environment, echoing the tones of the surrounding landscape.
