A low-ceiling basement at Via Cino da Pistoia, Florence, becomes a study in color, materiality, and spatial hierarchy, where functional zones and central spaces are defined with precision and recycled elements.
The basement is structured by painted steel beams and organized into functional rooms (bedroom, bathroom, kitchen) and distributive spaces including the central hall. Each functional room is assigned a distinct color: green for the bathroom, pink for the kitchen, and light blue for the bedroom. Distributive areas and the main hall are finished in raw concrete, revealed by removing the old linoleum, with light walls and zinc-plated metal details. The kitchen integrates reclaimed materials with new spruce and scratched, treated zinc sheets. Ceiling-mounted polycarbonate panels provide diffuse lighting between the beams, highlighting the dialogue between materiality, color, and structural rhythm.
